2026 Sofa Set Buying Guide
A sofa set is one of the longest-lasting and largest investments in a home. At Lorien Furniture we put this guide together from the questions our customers ask most often.
1. Measure First
- Between sofa and coffee table: min. 45–50 cm
- Walkways: min. 80–90 cm
- Check the width of doors and hallways
Tip: A sofa that looks small in a large display area can look big in your home.
2. Frame Quality — the Most Important, Least Visible Part
A good frame: Hornbeam or beech + plywood, screwed and glued
Test: Rock it gently — if it creaks, the frame is weak.
At Lorien Furniture every sofa frame is made from hornbeam.
3. Foam Density (DNS)
| Density | Lifespan |
|---|---|
| 20-25 DNS | 2–3 years |
| 26-30 DNS | 4–6 years |
| 32-35 DNS | 7–10 years |
| 35+ DNS | 10+ years |
Lorien standard: Minimum 32 DNS foam in all our models.
4. Fabric Trends for 2026
Velvet: Luxurious look and soft feel. Pet hair tends to cling.
Microfibre: The most practical. Stain-resistant. Ideal for families with children.
Genuine leather: 15–20 years of use. The most economical in the long run.
Faux leather (PU): Affordable, but may crack over the years.
5. Colour Palette for 2026
- Greige (grey + beige): Modern and timeless
- Mink/Cream: Makes small living rooms feel larger
- Anthracite: Bold and easy to keep clean
- Olive green: Still a strong trend in 2026
6. 3+2+1 or Corner Sofa?
3+2+1: Large living room, many guests.
Corner (L-shape): Makes the most of compact living rooms.
Modular: The configuration can be changed.
Final Checklist
- Does it fit the room?
- Is the frame hornbeam or beech?
- Is the foam at least 32 DNS?
- Does the fabric suit my lifestyle?
- Is there a 2-year warranty certificate?
